In the third commandment the Lord blesses the meek, promising them the inheritance of the earth. This commandment teaches us to be always meek and gentle, following the example of our Lord Jesus Christ, who was like a gentle Lamb. When reproached, He did not reproach; when suffering, He did not whine, but left everything up to God, Who judges righteously; He taught us never to become irritated by anything and not to irritate or offend anyone, restraining our fits of temper in every possible way; to treat everyone affectionately, patiently, leniently; to conquer evil with good; and to correct incorrigible people through patience and reasoning. As a reward for meekness and patience, the Lord promises the inheritance of the earth – first, long life and well-being here on earth, and, second, a blessed and eternal life in the heavenly fatherland.
